OHSMT
specialises in the preparation of in-house Health & Safety
manuals and documentation that is designed to meet the
client's specific
needs.
Well
structured, supportive
documentation can provide a very useful adjunct to the Health &
Safety policy, and can often form the 'arrangements' section of that
document.
|
|
During documentation
preparation,
close involvement is made with people on the ground who know what is
really taking place. A full document is never produced until
the draft has been carefully considered and any amendments and
adjustments discussed and incorporated. This way the
organisation has ownership of the final procedures and a greater
likelihood that the procedures will be applied. |
|
The use of the
telephone, the internet
and e-mail together with a wide
knowledge of industrial processes and commercial practices means that
such documents can usually be produced, evaluated, amended and adapted
without a costly site visit. The wide availability now of
digital cameras and the facility to e-mail pictures makes the process
much more accurate and effective.
The same process can help
develop risk assessments.
Often
organisations are pursuaded that risk
assessments can only be undertakern by 'specialists', and are
encouraged to buy-in someone to undertake the process entirely on their
behalf or even 'off the shelf'.
Risk assessments
should primarily be undertaken by those who are directly
involved in the particular activities. OHSMT is able to
provide support,
advice and guidance
through this process during both the planning and assessment stages,
and to add comment and feedback at the conclusion. This
process
gives confidence to non-specialists undertaking the assessments who
retain 'ownership' but who no longer feel isolated or exposed by their
inexperience.
